Santa Barbara County Working with Mission Canyon Association

Salud Carbajol and staff are working closely with the Mission Canyon Association on several fronts. MCA directors and the Land Use Committee are invited to meet with Salud and his staff each month to address the pressing issues facing Mission Canyon residents. As a result of these efforts, $200,000 has been designated to fund the update of the Specific Plan for Mission Canyon which was compiled in back in 1984 to outline the issues specific to Mission Canyon assist the County in the planning process. In collaboration with the community and a newly created MPAC, the 1984 Mission Canyon Specific Plan will be initiated in Fall 2006 and will additionally include the development of Residential Design Guidelines. The purpose of the guidelines are:

To provide reasonable, practical, and objective guidance to assist residents, home-owners, and designers in identifying the key design characteristics and components that define the character of a neighborhood in designing new or remodeled homes;

* To guide, educate and motivate owners, developers and designers to create projects that contribute to community design objectives to enhance the livability of Mission Canyon; and

* To provide the tools needed for staff, the County's Board of Architectural Review, other decision makers, and community members to properly evaluate development proposals within the context of these guidelines.
